The Everyday Costs of Caring for a Veteran at Home
Peri Care Home Essentials sends one box a year to a household caring for a senior veteran at home — the supplies that keep daily care possible and that no benefit program covers. Goods, never cash. This is a free Veteran Service operated by Mendry, Inc., a Florida 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.
No payment is made to any provider, clinic, or pharmacy. No vouchers are issued and no bills are paid. The program ships supplies directly to the household, and eligibility does not depend on where the veteran receives care or which professionals are involved in it.

The Costs Nobody Budgets For
When a family cares for an aging veteran at home, the expenses that pile up are rarely the ones anyone planned for. They are not medical bills. They are the mattress replaced within a year, the three extra loads of laundry a day, the sheets that wear through and never get replaced because there is no room in the month for sheets.
Nobody funds any of it. There is no benefit for a waterproof mattress protector and no coverage code for detergent strong enough to do the job. These are small, unglamorous costs, and they land hardest on the households least able to absorb them.
What the Box Contains
Included
- Waterproof mattress and pillow protection
- Enzymatic laundry detergent, odor eliminator, and odor-sealing disposal bags
- No-rinse shampoo cap and body wash, for the days a shower is not possible
- A warming peri bottle, so rinsing does not require repositioning
- A slide sheet, for turning in bed without injuring the caregiver or tearing fragile skin
- Non-skid socks and a motion-activated nightlight for the route to the bathroom
Contents are adjusted to what a household says it needs. Boxes ship in plain packaging with nothing on the outside identifying what is inside.
What We Do Not Send
We do not send incontinence supplies. The VA already does.
Not included
- Prescription or over-the-counter medications, including antifungal and antibiotic creams
- Wound dressings, catheter, or ostomy supplies
- Durable medical equipment — wheelchairs, walkers, commodes, shower chairs, hospital beds
- Nutritional supplements or enteral formula
- Cash, gift cards, vouchers, or payment toward any bill
- Payments of any kind to a provider, clinic, pharmacy, or dispensary
Anything treating a diagnosed condition belongs with a clinician, and equipment that has not been properly fitted causes injury.
