The standard we build to
We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at Level AA. That is the standard most commonly referenced in U.S. accessibility law and the one we hold ourselves to whether or not we are legally required to.
What that means in practice
- Body text meets a contrast ratio of at least 4.5:1 against its background at default size
- Headings run in sequence so screen readers can navigate the page structure
- Images carry meaningful alternative text, and decorative images are marked as decorative
- The whole site can be operated with a keyboard, with a visible focus outline on every interactive element
- Tap targets are at least 44 by 44 pixels on mobile
- Text reflows without horizontal scrolling at 200 percent zoom
- Motion is reduced automatically for anyone whose device requests it
- Plain language is a house rule: acronyms are expanded on first use and there is a glossary
[TO BE COMPLETED BEFORE PUBLICATION] — this page should not claim conformance that has not been tested. Before publishing, run the checks in the audit’s Section E against the live site and record: the date tested, the tools used, and any point above that does not yet pass. Anything failing belongs in “Known limitations” below with a target date, not quietly omitted.
Known limitations
We would rather name these than pretend they do not exist:
- [LIST ANY FAILED CHECKS HERE, WITH A TARGET FIX DATE]
- Some documents and pages hosted on partner platforms — including the provider directory on Veterans Desk and membership on DutyPath Academy — are outside our control. We raise accessibility issues with those partners when they are reported to us.
- Third-party embedded content may not meet the same standard as pages we build ourselves.
Tell us about a barrier
If any part of this site is difficult or impossible for you to use, email info@mendry.org with the page address and what went wrong. We aim to respond within five business days and to describe what we can do and when.
If you need something on this site in another format — large print, plain text, or read aloud over the phone — ask, and we will provide it.
In Crisis
Accessibility problems should never stand between a veteran and help. Call 988 and press 1, text 838255, or chat at VeteransCrisisLine.net. For emergencies, dial 911.
